The American Language Center of Tangier offers three main programs: an Adult/Young Adult program, a Junior program for young adolescents, and a Children’s program.
We offer English-language courses for students aged five and above during three, ten-week sessions per year (fall, winter and spring) and intensive sessions in the summer and September.

It’s easy to register for English language classes at the American Language Center Tangier.
  1. Visit the ALC during registration dates.
  2. Take a placement test. This will help us match you to the correct class.
  3. Young learners (ages 5 – 15) should provide birth certificates at registration.
  4. You can pay the class fees in cash, by debit card or by check at reception before the start of the course. Payment in installments is available for those who can not pay in full at the time of registration. Limited financial support is available for students who are not able to afford course fees. Applicants for financial aid are encouraged to speak to one of our staff members at the registration desk.

Also referred to as the Adult Program, this is for learners aged 15 and above. The program consists of three main cycles: Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Each of these cycles has six levels (for example, Beginning 1, Beginning 2, etc.). Each level represents approximately thirty contact hours which can be completed in either one normal session or one accelerated (intensive) session.
Students must pass a series of assessments in order to continue to the next level.
Learners in the Adult Program study 3 hours per week at the ALC. Classes either meet twice a week (two class sessions of 90 minutes each) or once a week (one class session of 180 minutes with a 15 minute break).
In addition to this regular program, the ALC also offers special classes in TOEFL preparation, Business English, Bac Prep. We also offer private lessons on an hourly basis. more details

Students must enter the Junior program at the beginning of the school year. Registration usually opens on September 1st for new students. Current students are given first choice of schedules and may re-enroll at the end of the school year or during the summer (May – July).
To supplement a course book specially designed for teenagers, teachers use games, songs, and other activities. Periodic summative and ongoing, in-class formative assessment are used to gauge learners in all four skills – speaking and listening, reading and writing.  The learners need to score a minimum of 55/100 to pass to the next level.
ALC Tangier offers clubs along with indoor and outdoor extracurricular activities to give learners a chance to practice English in different contexts.

The textbooks are used to inform the course syllabus, there is a strong emphasis on using song, rhyme, story books, games and outdoor activities as language learning opportunities.
Our courses for children aged 5 and 6 offer a fun introduction to English encouraging active speaking and listening skills. Writing is introduced in Children Starter classes for 6-year-olds.
For 7 – 9 year olds, our program focuses on developing essential listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a fun and motivating atmosphere without raising performance-related stress levels often associated with school learning.
The program provides a solid foundation for future studies, giving children a head start in English.
