Trainees are selected after a written exam and an interview. Professional teacher trainers run monthly intensive training sessions, guiding ETII trainees in English language pedagogy by following the Cambridge University’s Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) curriculum. ALC teachers complement these monthly sessions with their own weekly classes, imparting their own know-how and experience in a more intimate, hands-on environment as they build mentor relationships with trainees and introduce them to the professional culture of the ALC. Trainees later lead English and literacy classes at local Ministry of Handicraft learning centers and Entreaide Nationale-affiliated associations, gaining valuable professional experience while serving their communities. Lastly, the handicrafts and Entraide national beneficiaries gain English language skills that they’ll be able to use at future jobs in their respective fields.
What is the English Teaching Internship Initiative program?
ETII ” English Teaching Internship Initiative” is a community service and hands-on initiatory teacher training program that seeks to expand the quality, reach, and accessibility of English language education in Morocco. Run out of regional American Language Centers (ALC’s) by ALC staff members, the ETII targets two main beneficiary groups: (1) university students and recent university graduates interested in gaining initial classroom teaching experience and (2) underserved young Moroccans in state-run Ministry of Handicraft Centers and Entraide Nationale-affiliated associations.
During the graduation ceremony at the end of the academic year, trainees are awarded a certificate which is signed by the president of the university Abdelmalek Essaadi, the regional coordinator of Entraide Nationale, the local director of the Ministry of Handicrafts learning center and the director of the ALC.
