On Tuesday, 5/21/10 ALC Tangier organized a trip for students of the Positive School, a project at Les Etoiles du Nord, to the US Embassy-sponsored exhibit called ‘Of Voice and Stone’ at the National Library in Rabat. The exhibit commemorates Sultan Moulay Suleiman’s gift of the American Legation – a building located in Tangier’s old medina – to the young United States in 1821 as well as 200 years of Moroccan-American friendship. Today the American Legation is a museum and thriving center for arts and cultural programming, research and community education and engagement. The Positive School group, led by ALC Tangier community service club student Chaimae Hssain, also had the opportunity to take a tour of the library, where they saw centers for scientific research and a number of different book collections. Later, the group visited the National Museum of Photography’s outdoor exhibit.
