The American Language Center of Tangier has been teaching English in Tangier for over 45 years. In addition to providing courses in English for children, adolescents and adults, we also organize and support cultural activities (plays, workshops, art exhibits, scholarly lectures, concerts, multi-disciplinary events) and community service programs and projects. 

ALC Tangier is a member of the American Cultural Association, a private, non-profit educational and cultural service.

To be a competitive center for effective English language learning committed to a fun and motivating student-centered, communicative approach to instruction while fostering Moroccan-American cross-cultural understanding.

To promote good relations and understanding between the peoples of the United States and Morocco through the exchange of language and ideas.  

ALC Tangier uses a conversational, student-centered approach to teaching English where students are continuously engaged in skill development through spontaneous interaction with peers. Conversation allows elements of contingency and surprise, impulse and revelation to find expression naturally and meaningfully in real time. By creating clear and authentic contexts for language learning in the classroom, we prepare students for relevant real-life situations they will encounter outside the classroom.  Our approach offers an ideal after-school complement to the kind of instruction most young people receive in local public and private schools.

The ALC offers a certain number of scholarships every year to students who do not have the ability to pay for study at the ALC, and who show academic promise.

ALC Tangier offers a variety of free student activities which vary depending on student interest and availability, but can include such activities as the following: drama club, journalism club/newsletter, conversation club, arts and crafts club, music club, soccer club, debate and public speaking workshops/competitions, etc..

In addition to English teaching and community service, the ALC Tangier has been implementing an extensive cultural presence in the city  through: 

• Organizing a rich cultural activities program including a variety of events and disciplines, with national and international artists and cultural practitioners: Concerts, workshops, plays, dance performances, talks, panels, etc.

• Supporting local cultural and artistic initiatives and events, and co-hosting festivals: The Urban Arts Week, Haraka Contemporary Dance Festival…

• Organizing its own annual multidisciplinary artistic festival “Youmein”, which gathers artists from different disciplines to work on a common theme, over the course of 48 hours.

• Partnering with local organisations and institutions in different cultural and artistic fields
